Inventors’ law consultations

Free consultation service

Once a month the Patent and Trademark Centre Rhine-Main, in cooperation with a group of patent attorneys, offers consultations on industrial property rights free of charge.

The inventors’ law consultation service provides initial advice for inventors and applicants and aims to offer support with legal matters relating to patents, utility models and design protection. This is a voluntary service, performed by patent attorneys with the utmost discretion.

Consultations are confidential and last a maximum of 30 minutes.

It is not possible to deal with any legal matters in great detail or submit a patent application in this short time.*

We recommend carrying out a search in advance. This allows you to verify whether your invention or design is new or if it infringes the rights of third parties.

It is essential that you make an appointment in advance. You can do so by clicking the button below. Please note that consultations can currently only take place by phone or virtually.

Important information

Advice on matters relating to trade mark protection can also be requested from the respective IHKs. Please ask at your regional IHK for more information.

Current arrangements for inventors’ law consultations

  • Once you have submitted the form you will receive confirmation of your appointment.
  • You will receive the contact details of the respective attorney in a separate e-mail.

Information on consultation

IP rights problems relating to patents, utility models and designs can be discussed at these sessions. In-depth questions or applications for protection cannot be dealt with. It is only possible to claim one free consultation session for an invention or a problem.

This voluntary consultation service is handled with the utmost discretion.

The Patent and Trademark Centre cannot assume any legally binding liability for statements made by the patent attorney. Questions not relating to legal matters, for example on searches or monitoring of IP rights, can be answered by staff at the Patent and Trademark Centre.
